We are seeking Quantity Surveying Apprentices to assist with both Estimating and Quantity Surveying for the business.

 

 

Role & Responsibilities

The role and responsibilities of an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor will naturally evolve over time as experience is gained, as well as varying in response to the type and size of projects being worked on.

Here are some of the responsibilities a successful candidate will be involved in:

Estimating

  • Undertaking detailed take-off's from drawings using Procore, specifications and design documents
  • Ensuring all works are captured within all tender documentation and are added to a pricing schedule

Subcontractor Procurement

  • Setting up, updating and management of procurement schedules for each project
  • Preparing detailed scope of works and/or measured pricing schedules, and/or marked up drawings per package of works using Procore
  • Preparing and coordinating tender enquiries
  • Communicating with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure prices are received and are compliant, coordinating queries as appropriate
  • Analysing and comparing tender returns
  • Normalising tender returns and raising, coordinating, and dealing with queries
  • Negotiating with preferred contractors

Material Procurement

  • Extracting relevant specifications and design information
  • Preparing and coordinating enquiries
  • Analysing and comparing tender returns
  • Normalising tender returns and raising, coordinating, and dealing with queries

 Live Project QS-ing

  • Assist with commercial reporting
  • Assist with determining and valuing variations
  • Assist with determining and valuing payment applications

General

  • Assisting with commercial and administrative tasks
  • General administrative duties within the office
  • Design Coordination

Training & Qualifications

The successful candidate will undertake the Construction Quantity Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship programme with our training partner ARU (Anglia Ruskin University).

The successful Apprentice Quantity Surveyor will complete both the Construction QS Technician (L4) and the Chartered Surveyor Apprenticeship degree Standard level 6.

This will be achieved through a day-release programme with studies delivered from ARU’s campus in Chelmsford.

Expected duration

4 years for the BSc element plus around 9 months for the End Point Assessment. Successful apprentices will become Members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).

Apprenticeship level

Degree Level 6 (Degree with honours) in Quantity Surveying

The successful candidate will be eligible to receive a Chartered Membership from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).

Career Progression Opportunities

One the apprenticeship is complete, the successful candidate is expected to progress to a Senior Quantity Surveyor and will be responsible for Surveying client projects.

Pay Structure

  • Starting salary - £20,000
  • Completion of first-year of four-year BSC in Quantity Surveying - £21,000
  • Completion of second-year of four-year BSC in Quantity Surveying; - £23,000
  • Completion of third-year of four-year BSC in Quantity Surveying; - £27,500
  • Completion of fourth-year of four-year BSC in Quantity Surveying - £30,000
  • Completion of Chartered Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) - £45,000

Working week:

  • Monday - Thursday 0830 – 1730
  • Friday - 0830 – 1630
  • Total hours per week: 39 hours a week
